Saint Lucia, West Indies Day One

Sam and I left for our Honeymoon Tuesday May 24th. When we arrived in Saint Lucia (after a very long flight of drinking mimosas, eating peanuts and watching The Tourist for 4 and a half hours) we were greeted by a Helicopter to takes us to another airport 10 minutes away from Sandals Grande. Sam had never been in a helicopter and he was so excited. Sam and I were lucky enough to get the very front seats for prime viewing. The pilot showed us a ton of landslide devastation from the Hurricane that hit Oct/Nov 2010. He showed us ganja fields on the side of mountains, the pitons and the governments largest banana (export) plantation.

We made it to Sandals Grande Resort late that afternoon and because we took the Helicopter our luggage was a bit delayed. It had to be driven to the resort which was an hour and a half from the first airport. We headed down to one of the beach restaurants, Josephine's, and dined on Hawaiian Pizza and the newly discovered Piton Beer. Once our luggage arrived, we changed clothes and headed down to the beach for the last few minutes of sun.

Because Sandals is such a HUGE resort they recommended making reservations at basically every evening dining choice they offered. Some were booked for our entire stay so we highly suggest making reservations ahead of time. Our first dinner was at Bayside Restaurant. Sam enjoyed the Surf & Turf including filet, mahi mahi, shrimp and scallops. Later that evening they were having a "cigar expo" at the restaurant where we were dining. We hopped in the line, bought a couple Cubans and headed to the beach...

We ended our evening with our feet soaking in the HUGE hot tub, live music playing in the tower, a cool breeze blowing and the sound of waves crashing in the background. Such a relaxing way to end our evening after a full day of traveling. Drink of choice for the entire trip (besides the Piton beer): DIRTY BANANAS!!

Dirty Banana Recipe
1 oz. rum-based coffee liqueur
1 oz. rum cream
2 ounces milk
(*Tip: fresh coconut milk)
1/2 oz. simple syrup
1 banana
1 cup of ice

Combine all ingredients in blender and blend for 1 minute, or until desired consistency. ENJOY!
