Secret Salsa

A couple months ago I posted pictures of the garden at the farm...well, every veggie you can imagine is ready to EAT! This past weekend, after a cook-out at The Blevins in Canton, we headed to the farm to make salsa. It is probably the highlight of Sam's summer! We Sam makes ton's of salsa and we get to enjoy it throughout the next year. We seriously ran out of our last jar just last month. Unfortunately, I cannot give out the recipe because it is a secret...even I don't know all the ingredients. I know it has tomato's, bell peppers, banana peppers, vidalia onions, habanero peppers, jalapenos, cilantro and many more little ingredients.

Sam bought goggles because he said the onions burn his eyes so bad.
He didn't want to spend $15.00 on adult ones
so he bought child goggles for $1.50...oh mercy!

Sam and his grandmother during the canning process.

Sam making fun of "momo" b/c she almost grabbed the hot jars
out of the water bath.

Ready for those lids to pop!! The key is that the jars have to be hot the entire time or else they could bust or not seal right and go bad. Football season is just around the corner and we can't wait to share our salsa with our friends! GO DAWGS!!

Junior League July Recipe

Georgia Peach Punch (page 15)

To make this punch a little drier, add more wine and less ginger ale. This drink is the perfect way to cool down after an afternoon in the hot Georgia sun!

2 cans frozen peach daiquiri mix, thawed
1 can frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
1 can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 quart club soda, chilled
1 (2-liter) bottle ginger ale, chilled
1 bottle white wine, chilled
1-2 fresh peaches, pitted and sliced for garnish

In large container, combine daiquiri and concentrates along with club soda and mix well. Pour over ice in pitcher or punch bowl; add ginger ale and wine. Garnish glasses with peach slices. Serves 20.

The Junior League of Athens will be in full swing in a few short weeks. I can't wait to see all the girls again and participate in all the events in the coming year.

Fourth of July Weekend

Sam and I saw so many people and did so many things over fourth of July weekend! Sam worked on the farm and in the garden, we went out on lake Burton, watched the firework's, ate dinner at the chophouse, enjoyed TJ's wonderful cabin, spent more time on the lake, went tubing, made pickles, grilled out, worked on the guest bedroom furniture, and much much more.

I hope everyone else had a wonderful July 4th Weekend!! I wish every weekend during the summer was like this past one! And if the pickles turn out good I will definitely share the recipe.

Marti's At Midday Pimento Cheese

"If I am ever famous please let it be for my pimento cheese!" -Marti

Marti's At Midday has been an Athens staple ever since I was in college. It is amazing! I love everything on their menu....salads, cookies, mint tea....YUM! I always make her pimento cheese when gathering with friends and it is always a hit. I don't know if it is my friends that eat it all or ME!! Over 4th of July weekend, we headed to the lake and of course I brought some pimento cheese. The ingredients and directions can be found here. Also, if you are ever in Athens for breakfast or lunch, Marti's is a MUST TRY!!
Grate 6 cups sharp white cheddar cheese. I used Cracker Barrel cheese.

Mix grated vidalia onion, pimentos and cayenne.

Add in cream cheese and mayo.

Stir together until smooth and incorporated.

Add into the cheddar cheese mixture and combine.
The pimento cheese will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks!! But I don't think it will last past one day, especially in my hands!!

Craig's List

I know I have been MIA for over a week now but trying to move into a new house after living in the same place for the last 5 years has been extremely time consuming. But we're finally in and I can't wait to share all the decorating tips and ideas as we try and make our rental house a home...at least while Sam is in law school for the next three years.
My first purchase when I realized we were moving into a 3 bedroom house with only 2 bedroom suits was from Craig's list. I had been searching for a couple days and then found this cute bed and matching desk. It needed some work but when I saw the location and the price I called the seller right away. She wanted $40.00 and she was located literally 3 miles from Sam's office. SOLD!
It was one crazy story going to some strangers house buying something off Craig's list. All I could think about was the "Craig's List Killer." I pinged my location on my phone and sent it to Sam. I told him to call me in 5 minutes and if I didn't answer to call the police and come get me. Thankfully, the family was really nice and everything worked out.

We used paint thinner on all the old paint and started sanding the furniture.

I hope to get a chance to work on the desk and bed this weekend. And I can't wait to show the finished product and guest bedroom. We are using dark walnut stain and a medium gloss poly. Wish me luck!
